How Limitronic's technology helps to reduce the amount of packaging.

At Limitronic we are aware of the challenge that the need to reduce packaging represents for the whole industry. Most products in all sectors use cardboard, plastic and other materials for packaging, and factories and distribution centres need to adapt to new regulations and requirements to minimise the materials used and encourage recycling.

The European Green Pact proposes to put an end to packaging waste, and through its new legislation sets a target to reduce waste by 15% by 2040, per person per EU member state. Both small and large companies must invest and adapt their structures to comply with the new laws.

In Limitronic we work day by day in the lines of many sectors and we make systems that also give solution to these environmental objectives.
The different industries are adapting their systems and need new printing and coding methods integrated in their lines to get closer to these goals.

Packaging practices to promote sustainability

Minimise the size of the boxes for each product, avoiding waste.

Many industries are faced with the problem that their products have variable formats, so it is more difficult to reduce the size of each box and adapt the codes and information to each package. Limitronic's equipment prints in the same run on boxes of different sizes. Its printheads can be adapted to different heights on the same line, thus helping to reduce the amount of packaging material.
E-commerce companies also have to handle multiple product orders and create the perfect packaging for each product, so they need a highly flexible coding system like Limitronic.

Use recycled and recyclable materials.

Many of the EU measures set a target for all packaging to be recyclable by 2030. For the proper recycling of plastics, cardboard, paper and other materials, it is also important that the inks used for coding and customising packaging can also be recycled. Many conventional inks do not allow this, but Limtronic equipment uses MOF and LMX (low migration) inks which are suitable.
In addition, our system provides clear, durable and variable coding, making it easy to identify which waste stream each container belongs to.

Use flexible bags and packaging that are adapted to each product.

One way to reduce packaging material is to sleeve products that allow it, in recyclable cardboard envelopes, paper bags or recycled plastic envelopes. Limitronic's Plus range allows printing on soft surfaces, so you can code on sacks, bags or envelopes, efficiently and definitively.

More information via QR codes on every pack.

QR codes have the ability to link images and all kinds of dynamic information to each code, and on each pack. Users can use their mobile device to learn more about product and brand details or participate in promotions. In this way, the space dedicated to this type of information on each pack can be minimised by taking up only the surface area of a QR code. Digitising information saves on materials and printing.

Promote the reuse and refilling of packaging.

Undoubtedly, a correct packaging reuse circuit would have a positive impact on the environment. To this end, products that allow this should incorporate information on their packaging that facilitates correct traceability. For the end user, they should also display clear and durable codes so that they can return the packaging in the appropriate containers. In this field, Limitronic's equipment is also suitable, as the prints they make are resistant and do not disappear with rubbing or humidity.

For a more sustainable world, we direct our research to provide solutions to the new environmental challenges that industries are facing.
